5 Techniques for Stress Management

Stress has always been considered our body’s reaction to a specific stressor – whether it is real or imagined. This type of condition is often the cause of many illnesses in our body.

We deal with stress everyday wherever we may be or how little we do. Managing stress has always been a goal for many of us who are unable to control it. The good thing is we are now more aware of its symptoms and often, when we are lucky, we get to avoid it before it gets worse. However, there are those instances when resisting it causes more stress.

If you do have stress symptoms, taking steps to manage your stress can have numerous health benefits. Stress management can include:

  • Physical activity – a simple exercise can work wonders on certain stressful situations.
  • Relaxation techniques – breathing exercises have proven to be an effective technique to helping your body to relax.
  • Meditation – try to stay away from the crowd and allow your body to focus on itself. Forget your weaknesses or insecurities and direct your attention to a peaceful environment.
  • Yoga – derived from the Sanskrit root ‘yuj’, meaning ‘to control; it presents the idea of letting your mind control your whole body, generally through meditation.
  • Tai chi – a unique form of Chinese martial arts often practiced for health reasons. This type of practice is believed to let you focus solely on movements of your body that would help you achieve a state of mental calm and clarity.

Stress management is essential in keeping a healthy mind and body. Identify the markers that your body is giving you when it is close to reaching its limits. A good defense against stress is that you have to be aware of your body that when first signs of stress appear, it is always a good choice to be in a calm state of mind.

We also have to keep in mind that we don’t have to do these techniques only when signs of stress occur. Whenever you have the time, or better yet, find that time to give yourself a break and relax.
